Your Questions, Answered

  • A jewelry appraisal is an unbiased, evidence-based valuation of a jewelry item, prepared for a specific purposeand as of a specific effective date.

The valuation is supported by researched and verified market data, which is analyzed and documented in a formal written report.

Appraisal reports are prepared by a trained and experienced professional valuation specialist.

    • To determine Replacement Value for insurance scheduling

    • To establish Fair Market Value for:

      • Estate planning and probate

      • Equitable distribution

      • Tax reporting and liability

      • Dissolution of marriage

      • Litigation support

    • To determine Marketable Cash Value for resale or liquidation

    • To document value for post-loss insurance claims or other legal and financial purposes

      MORE INFORMATION

  • Jewelry appraisal fees are based on the complexity of the item(s) and the level of examination, research, and analysis required to produce a comprehensive appraisal report.

Fees are not based on a percentage of value and are determined independently of the jewelry’s appraised worth.

    Per-Item Fees

    • For most standard, contemporary jewelry styles examined in our office, the fee for the first item typically ranges from $150 to $200, depending on the time required.

    • For collections, additional items may be appraised at a reduced rate, starting as low as $50 per item, depending on the size and composition of the collection.

    • In most cases, a fixed fee quote is provided once the jewelry is presented for review.

    Hourly Rates

    • For assignments that require extensive research or specialized analysis, fees may be charged on an hourly basis.

    • Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $200 per hour, based on the scope of work.

    • Time is calculated based on actual hours devoted to examination, analysis, research, and report preparation.

    Fee Estimates

    • Because each appraisal assignment is unique, fees are determined on a sliding scale related to complexity.

    • A general fee estimate can often be provided after a brief discussion of your goals and a general description of the item(s).

      MORE INFORMATION

  • The time required depends on the number of items and the complexity of each piece.

The examination phase typically takes 15–45 minutes per item.

After the examination, analysis and market research are conducted.

The completed appraisal report is generally delivered within approximately one week.

Same-day service may be available upon request, subject to scheduling availability and an expedited service fee.

  • Not necessarily. In many cases, the examination can be completed while you wait, even for multiple items, so you do not need to leave your jewelry with us.

If additional time is required, or if you prefer, you may drop off your jewelry in the morning and pick it up later the same day.

When items are left with us, an intake form with photographs is completed to document and identify each piece.

    About the Appraisal Process

    • Appraising a piece of jewelry is a detailed process that may take several hours and can include:

      • Professional cleaning

      • Metal and gemstone testing

      • Measuring and grading

      • Research and market analysis

      • Photography and documentation

    • While the physical examination requires possession of the jewelry, research, value reconciliation, photo editing, and report preparation are typically completed after the examination and do not require us to retain your jewelry.

    • Our goal is always to return your jewelry the same day or as quickly as possible. We do not keep items longer than necessary.

    Security and Insurance

    • If your jewelry needs to remain with us for a short period, it is fully insured and stored in a high-security safe.

    • Jewelry is examined under a microscope, and unique identifying characteristics are documented to ensure proper identification. When appropriate, microscopic photographs may be included with your service documentation.

    • We take the care and security of your jewelry seriously—our reputation is never worth risking a single piece.

    Expedited Service

    • Same-day service may be available upon request, depending on the assignment and scheduling.

  • The best way to have your jewelry appraised is to schedule an appointment in advance.

You may contact LexBrilliance Appraisal by phone at (626) 618-6302 or use the online booking system on our website.

    • Appointments allow you to observe the examination process while your jewelry is being professionally evaluated.

    • Please bring the jewelry along with any available supporting documentation, such as receipts, laboratory reports, or certificates.

    • All examinations are conducted in a secure and controlled environment.

    For Multiple or Complex Items

    • If you have multiple pieces or items that require more extensive evaluation, you may choose to leave your jewelry temporarily while the examination is completed.

    • In such cases, a formal intake process will be completed, including detailed photographs of each item, which will be provided for your records.

  • Yes. We provide appraisal services for watches. We recommend bringing any available documentation, such as purchase receipts, service records, or certificates, as this information can assist in the evaluation.

  • We offer a jewelry brokering service to help clients convert unwanted or inherited jewelry into cash.

The process begins with a professional examination of your jewelry to determine quality, grading, and relevant characteristics.

Based on this analysis, we prepare a detailed description and seek competitive offers from our network of knowledgeable buyers.

Our goal is to help you obtain the best available market offer.

Fees are charged for professional time and brokering services, and will be clearly disclosed in advance.

    MORE INFORMATION

  • We can provide on-site appraisal services.

We have a portable gemological laboratory, allowing us to provide almost all of our services on-site.
